The Fujifilm X-T30II: A Review

Fujifilm has consistently impressed photographers with their innovative camera offerings, and the X-T30II is no exception. Packed with advanced features and improvements over its predecessor, this mirrorless camera is designed to meet the needs of both amateurs and professionals. Let’s dive into the details of the Fujifilm X-T30II and why we recommend it!

Enhanced Tech + Capabilities:

So I appreciate the enhanced autofocus system of the X-T30II, which makes for quick and precise focusing in various shooting conditions. Whether I’m shooting fast-moving subjects or focusing in low-light situations, the X-T30II’s autofocus system definitely performs. However, when it comes to video performance, quality is somewhat average, shooting in 4k up to 30 fps. It is worth noting that this camera lacks image stabilization, so as a result, the footage may appear shaky unless used with a lens equipped with image stabilization.

Another call out is this camera’s touchscreen features, which I personally like for easy tap-focusing. However, should you choose not to utilize the touch screen capabilities, the physical toggles on the camera are incredibly user-friendly, and I often find myself using those more frequently.

Compact and Lightweight:

The X-T30II maintains that compact and lightweight design that Fujifilm is known for. This makes it an ideal grab for photographers on the go, allowing them to bring along on all their adventures, without the burden of a heavy camera. This made our Fuji quickly become the go-to travel camera.

Battery Life:

The X-T30II battery life is pretty solid, in my experience. I can shoot throughout an entire weekend without needing to recharge, as long as I am conscientious about turning it off when not in use.

Low-Light Performance:

In low-light conditions, the performance is what you might expect from a mid-level camera such as the X-T30II, especially when compared to a powerhouse like the Sony A7riii. You’ll see some graininess, but if you’re being mindful of your settings and the use of flash when necessary, you can mitigate the impact. However, in situations where you’re shooting in dimly lit spaces without flash, you might encounter challenges with grain when editing.

Custom Presets In-Camera:

Recognizing that every photographer has their own taste, the X-T30II offers extensive customization options. One standout feature we particularly appreciate in the Fujifilm X-T30II is the capability to craft personalized presets, or film simulations, directly within the camera (note that these do export as JPEG!). You have the flexibility to store up to 7 custom presets, allowing for effortless switching based on your shooting preferences. The possibilities are vast, transforming the camera into a point-and-shoot once your preferred presets are saved in-camera. If you ever wish to start fresh, no worries – you can easily access your RAW images and edit from there.
